Unidentified aircraft was\nsighted by three crews of the group at 14022 5 Sep 48 off west coast of Holland,\n5155N/0355E.\nAltitude of all aircraft was 30,000 feet. When first sighted\nthe unidentified A/C was cruiamng at a normal jet speed, heading 120 degrees.\nSoon after f'ir~t. seen, A/C began leaving smoke trails and condensation trails\naccompanied by sudden acceleration and then climb. Generali agreed by\nobservers that it was a single jet propelled A/C employing probably rocket\nassists with tremendous reserve power, more than normal curising speed tor\njets of the 1947 variety. "text": "TOP SECRET\nUSAFE l4\nff 1524\n!OP SSCRET\n4 Nov 1948\nFrom OI OB\nFor some time we have been concerned by the recurring reports on .f'lying\nsaucers. They periodically continue to cbp up; during the last week., one was\nobserv·ed hovering over Neubiberg Air Base tor ab:>ut thirt-7 minutes. Th9J'\nhave been reported by so many sources and from such a variet7 of places that\nwe are convinced that they cannot be disregarded and mu.st be explained on eom.e\nbasis wh.£ch is perhaps slightly beyond the eeope ot our present intelligeace\nthinking O\n•\nWhen officers of this Directorate recently visited the Swedieh Air\nIntelligence Service. This question was put to the Swedes. Their answer\nwas that soma reliable and fully technically qualified people have reached\nthe conclusion that \"these phenomena are obviouel;r the result of a high\n••ohnical skill which cannot be credited to any- presently known culture on\ne~.n Thq1are therefore assuming that these objects originate from eome\nprevious4\" unknown or unidentified technology, possibly outside the earth.\nOne of these objects was observed by a Swedish technical expert near\nhis .home on the edge of a lake. The object crashed or landed in the lake\nand he car16ully noted its azimuth trom his point or observa:tion.\nSwedish\nintelligence was sufficiently confident in his observation that a naval\nsalvage team was sent to the lake. Operations were 'Wlderw81' during the\nvisit ot USAF1~ officers. Divers had discovered & previosul.y uncharted\ncrater on the floor ot the lake.\nNo further information is anilable, bat\nwe have been promised knowledge of the resultao In their opinion., the\nobservation was reliable, and they- believe that the depress.ion on the floor\not the lake, 'Which did not appear on current IJdrographic charts, was in\nfact caused by a flying saucer.\n•\nAlthough accepting this theory of the origin of these objects posea a\nwho,le new group of questions and puts much of our think:i.ng in a changed\nlight, we are inclined not to discredit entirely this somewhat spectacular\ntheory, meantime keeping an open mind on the subject.\nWhat are your\nreactions?\nTOP\n(Effl) OF USAPB ITEM: 14)\nNW90307\nDocld:34714985 Page 5"
