Add the Archive to Your Library

Get a free pack of 132 metadata sidecars (.nfo files) that turn the official, public-domain UAP videos into a rich library in Plex, Jellyfin, Emby, or Kodi — real titles, dates, agencies, and the verbatim official descriptions instead of bare DOD_######### filenames.

⚠ Important — you must set up an NFO scanner

A media server only reads these sidecars if its library is configured to import .nfo metadata. Plex ignores .nfo by default — you have to switch the library to an NFO agent ("scanner") first, then rescan. Full steps in Step 4 below.

The .zip includes all 132 sidecars, a CSV index with the official DVIDS download link per video, and a rename helper. The GitHub repo additionally has the open-source tooling to generate them yourself.

How to install

Download the videos (official source)

The videos are public domain. Get them from DVIDS — dvidshub.net/unit/AARO (or use the per-video link in the pack's catalog.csv). Files download as DOD_<id>.mp4.

Download the sidecars

Grab the .zip above and unzip it. The sidecars are named DOD_<id>.nfo to match the DVIDS downloads.

Place each sidecar next to its video

Put each DOD_<id>.nfo in the same folder as the matching DOD_<id>.mp4. If your files were renamed, run python rename_nfo.py /path/to/videos from the pack to match them automatically.

Set up the NFO scanner (required) and rescan

Plex: use a Movies library → Edit → Advanced → Agent = XBMCnfoMoviesImport (the NFO scanner). Move it above "Local Media Assets", enable Import movie.nfo, then Scan Library Files / Refresh Metadata.
Jellyfin / Emby: enable the Nfo metadata reader for the library, then Refresh Metadata.
Kodi: the local information provider reads the .nfo directly — just rescan.

After the rescan, your library shows the proper titles, dates, and official descriptions.
